The First Fruits of Outreach

The past two weeks have been so busy and full of life, they honestly flew by so quickly. The team and I have been working with an organization who’s focus is to help refugees feel at home, loved and provided for. I got to meet a lot of new faces and build new relationships. The team and I also have been doing a lot of street evangelism, prayer walking, getting involved more with the local YWAM team and we even got to make jewelry for a woman’s group. As well as we have gone so much deeper with the longer term relationships we have started.

The Lord has really opened my eyes to the world around me. I always knew He was moving, but I never really realized how exactly, or how much He was doing in other parts of the world until I got to actually experience it. I feel almost as if I’ve been blinded the whole time I’ve been at home, worrying about my own problems and issues and not seeing the bigger picture. God is doing so much, it’s not about me, it’s about Him. He’s not joining my story, I’m joining His.

There was one day when my fellow teammate and I were given a job to hand out booklets about a personal testimony. I had given out maybe two booklets the whole time we were there, but I knew I was supposed to give out more. Looking around, the Lord highlighted certain people who He wanted to have a booklet but I never actually gave them any, due to fear of man or being caught up in other jobs that needed to get done. By the end of the time we were there, every person I had noticed before who needed a booklet, had one. Neither me nor my teammate gave any to them, and we were the only ones holding these booklets. Somehow each person had gotten one and was reading it.

It hit me then, almost like a slap in the face, that God doesn’t necessarily need me to do His work. He can touch peoples lives even when I’m not willing to. He keeps looking until someone is willing to say yes. I realized even though God doesn’t need me, He still chooses to bring me into His story, He still wants to partner with me to help spread the Word. God has been so patient with me, and I’m so thankful that He still wants me to be apart of the bigger picture, even though He could do it Himself. This realization woke me up and I’ve challenged myself since to make the most of every day I’m here. To obey the Lord when He speaks and not let anything stop me, because it’s a privilege for me to be working beside the Almighty King.

I do wish I could talk more about the details of my work, but again due to the safety of the people here, I cannot on social media. I also want to appreciate everyone who has been generously giving towards my missions trip, and for every prayer. There is a strong atmosphere of separation due to the history of the location, and so I’ve been asking for prayer that the team stays connected and there is no division between members. Thank you all once again.

The outreach location has not been mentioned and photos have been altered due to the safety of the people.
